Dots to Dote on

Jackie O.’s sunglasses. Marilyn Monroe’s mole. Carrie Bradshaw’s Manolo Blahniks. The itsy-witsy teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikini.

Your favorite fashion icon is back - polka dots are popping up this season on dresses, skirts, shirts and your boyfriend’s ties.

Need proof? Check out fashion designer Nidhi Malhan’s polka dot tops and dresses accentuated by big bows at the empire line, and Ranna Gill’s red and white dotted dresses and frilly tops. This trend can also be spotted (literally) on Louis Vuitton’s Perforated range.

Don’t want these designer collections to leave a hole in your pocket? There are plenty of reasonably-priced options available at your favorite stores. Go, dote on them at GFO, Nextt 2000, Niche and Sunflower. And, if you are still looking for the best steal, go scout around the streets of Janpath.

So send your floral and animal prints to the back of your closet, and just be glad that Madonna’s cone bra didn’t make a comeback.

Rewards Of Retail Therapy

Women are from Venus. And Venus Women love to shop, with barely any exception to the rule. Somehow, it always puts a skip in your step and a smile on your face. Ahh — there’s nothing more therapeutic than that.

Except a shopping spree that puts a smile not only on your face, but also on the faces of some needy kids as well. Basically a good deed for a great deal!

Gayatri Ruia of Mogra is launching a movement to support Anando, an initiative for disadvantaged children that focuses on literacy and the all-round development of the child.

The charitable spirit of Mumbai has other designers joining Gayatri to display their inspired collections for this noble cause. Mogra will display Jewellery by Amisha Khanna, Uberchic Accessories by Alisha and Twisha China (of Bea fame), Ultraluxe Fashion Ensembles by Babita Malkani, Pret by Umaima Khorakiwala, and Sultry Silhouettes by Meghna K.

Part of the proceeds go to Anando, giving children access to education and extra curricular opportunities, and empowering and recognising them as India’s future.

Fancy this - you shop, they smile. It’s not just called retail therapy for nothing.

Preview at Mogra, Phoenix Mills, Tuesday 1st August, 2006, 4pm - 8pm - (By Invitation Only)
