Corporate Couture

You’re a real-life Corporate Bips. But you worry about having the perfect office outfit – it’s not like in the movies, where they always have just the right thing to wear.

Van Heusen may solve your work wardrobe woes with their new women’s range designed for comfort, style and that let’s-talk-business look. Chose from cotton lycra shirts, skirts and trousers, with scarves and cufflinks to complete the corporate look.

Slip into the figure-flattering pink and white striped shirt with an embroidered silk rose motif. Other shirts in soft muted pink, blue and brown are cut long so they can be tucked in.

Also try the brown cigarette pants or a flared knee-length gray skirt teamed with a black silk top. And when you finish the work week, the blue checked palazzo trousers are perfect for Friday evenings out at a pub.

With clothes like these, there’ll be no Monday blues for you.

Prices from Rs 895.

Out to Brunch

Spinach salads, cumin-encrusted breads, bekti in a tangy harissa sauce and zuccoto for dessert. Plus white and red wines, spicy Bloody Marys and mint caprioskas. Now this is what you call a power lunch. Well, brunch.

Taxi restaurant and lounge in South Mumbai has introduced a new Sunday brunch. So get ready for their ambitious omelette and waffle station. (Read: strawberries and cream, drizzled with maple syrup.) There’s also a wood fire oven for personal-sized pizzas.

Men dressed in khakis and polo shirts and women wearing wispy tunics and ballerina flats will fit right into the cool and casual crowd.

The blissful marriage of teal and gold décor, lofty ceilings, and the ornate-rimmed mirror by the bar all make for the perfect setting to sip and nibble away the day.

If only there was a bed for your Sunday afternoon nap.

Taxi, The Fusion Kitchen, Jony Castle Building, Khatau Road, Off Wodehouse Road , Colaba, Mumbai. Telephone: 22184904.
Brunch costs Rs 900.

All That Jazz

Imagine munching on some delish bruschetta and pasta while reading Jennifer Weiner’s latest chick lit, or a classic P.G. Wodehouse novel. Throw in some live jazz sessions and it’s a close-to-heaven combo.

This isn’t just a daydream – Café Turtle has just introduced a new dinner menu at their branch in Greater Kailash. They’ve always attracted loyal customers who can’t resist their killer books-and-snacks combo, but they’ve now enhanced their selection of coffees and cakes with a range of starters, mains, salads and desserts.

We recommend starting your evening with the Lebanese Platter. For the main course, go for cannelloni stuffed with mushrooms and topped by spinach and cheese sauce. You may be filled to the gills, but don’t miss the crumbly apple pie.

The food may be pricey by café standards, but the soothing jazz makes the experience worthwhile. And while you’re indulging, how about buying a nice book for the weekend on your way out?

Café Turtle, N-8, Greater Kailash-1 Market, Delhi. Telephone: 29245641/2/3.
Dinner menu prices from Rs 150 to Rs 400. Jazz nights on Fridays and Sundays.

Two to Tangle

Breaking news: Ex-television journalist Swati is mixing business with pleasure. And textile exporter Anckur is only too happy to oblige. A clandestine partnership?

Not really. This happily married duo has recently opened a stylish clothing store called Tangle, for women who crave comfortable, classy and affordable clothing.

The Apartment Collection has chic office wear with clean cuts, frayed edges, and washed shirts that give a minimalist look. Ready to transport you to a fantasy land, the Alice in Wonderland Collection has casual, sophisticated pieces in colourful woven fabrics embellished with sequins, hand embroidery and floral patterns.

A tip from us: If you like something, grab it immediately because their qualified designers – graduates from prestigious fashion schools like NID and NIFT – churn out fresh inventory every two weeks to keep up with global trends.

Tangle’s white and wooden décor is mod enough to make your iPod and Mac feel at home. And their egg-shaped changing rooms complement the contemporary clothes and vibe of the store.

This is one web you’ll want to get tangled up in.

Tangle, Atria Mall, Shop No.230/238, Worli, Mumbai. Telephone: 24813316.
Prices: Rs 299 – Rs 2899.

Ravishing Beauties

And so the wedding countdown begins. A hassled mother-in-law, nosy relatives, your frazzled nerves - so much for a bride to deal with on top of your never-ending to-do list.

Here’s one more must for that list: call couture wedding card designer, Ravish Kapoor.

Delisshious Delivery

No epidural, doctors or nurses, but trendy hub Phoenix Mills has given birth yet again.

Congratulations. It’s a restaurant called Kebabissh, specialising in kebabs and succulent Peshawari and Arabic dishes.

You’ll be transported to sultry Morocco in their special section with low seating, a waterfall, sashaying curtains and brass plates on display. The rest of the wood and stone dining room is warm and spacious, and even has a private area for families with children.

We suggest ordering the Nizami Fish Fry of spicy, fried pomfret fillets in a Moroccan sauce, or the Hyderabadi Mushroom Masala and Raan Irani. From the Peshawari menu, go for the Nalli Nihari or baby leg of lamb cooked overnight in mutton stalk. Chef Sajid Khan also recommends the Paneer Ajwaini Tikka and Murg Kadar-e-Shaan.

Finish with Malai Firni and Shahi Tukda - it would be sinful to leave without trying them.

Still so new, but this baby’s really kicking.

Kebabissh, Garden Court, Phoenix Mills, Mumbai. Telephone: 24954444.
Prices: Rs 1000-1500 for two. Serves alcohol.

Rich Miss

You’re a smart girl, but halfway through the month you wonder where all your money went.

Quit fantasising about that well-to-do Prince Charming, says Kim Kiyosaki, author of the new Rich Woman: A book for investing for women. Her husband Richard writes the popular Rich Dad, Poor Dad series, and he credits her with keeping the family afloat when he was in the financial doghouse.

Rich Woman urges you not to leave money matters to Mr. Man - the book is aptly subtitled, because I hate being told what to do. Kiyosaki teaches you that you are smart enough, you have the time, and you have the money.

This guide to smart investment is written in a chatty, humorous style. One of its many sensible suggestions: pay yourself first. Put away a certain percentage of what you earn before you pay the rent, shop for groceries or settle the dhobi’s bill.

You can bank on it.

Rich Woman: A book for investing for women, by Kim Kiyosaki, Rich Press, Rs 550.

Hip, Hip, Hurray

You always wished you could really shake your hips, instead of just a leg or two. You’ve even been known to lock the door, sashay up to the mirror and practice that booty move you saw Beyoncé doing on MTV.

Help has arrived - the Salsa India Dance Company is now offering belly dancing classes to teach you seductive techniques from the Middle East. Just as the Salsa India Dance Company’s original salsa classes took the capital by storm, their Wednesday night belly dance classes are becoming the latest craze.

Iranian instructor Sanaz Farshchi combines fun with fitness - belly dancing is especially great for toning up those tummy muscles. And all ages, from college girls to mothers, can enjoy the groove.

The best part is how glam you’ll feel wearing the bedazzling traditional hip-scarves. Find them at any street bazaar, like Sarojini Nagar or Janpath, or embellish your own with coins and sequins.

You’ll be out-shaking Shakira in no time.

Salsa India Dance Company, E-5 Greater Kailash -II Enclave, Masjid Modh.
Telephone: 9811222186.
Belly dance classes cost Rs 1,000 per month.

Wine and Dine

You’ve probably heard some buzz about Fine Dine, the recently opened restaurant at Chowpatty. Where better to enjoy Karen Anand’s international fusion cuisine than in this elegant dining room with French windows overlooking the Arabian Sea?

If you haven’t gone yet, our Trendylicious taste testers have a few recommendations for how to maximize your meal.

Start off with one of celebrated bartender Shatbhi Basu’s Tiki cocktails, which she is introducing in Mumbai for the very first time.

Call ahead to place your order for the Sikanderi Raan - the full leg of lamb is cooked for hours and infused with flavour.

Or for a unique experience, ask to be seated at the table with a built-in Korean barbecue. You can cook marinated meats yourself while chatting with friends.

Also don’t miss the grilled Red Snapper and Hara Shorba.

And take a peek into Anand’s Signature Menu to decide on wines that best complement your meal.

About a Boy

The battle of the sexes rages on. He likes his rough-and-tough look and can’t be bothered with creams or cleansers. You’re desperate to get him to groom. Now, you can leave out Forest Essentials’ new products for men and he’s bound to take the hint.

Stash a bottle of the Dry Oil Aftershave Spray in the bathroom. Its mandarin and aloe vera extracts soothe razor burn without any sting or extra grease. Or go for the Rehydrating Facial Tonic Mist with pomegranate and mint. It keeps his pores clean.

The neutral packaging sans girlie frills stays true to the brand’s ayurvedic roots. And a bonus: no over-the-top floral scent to turn your guy off.

Body scrubs and eye serums might require some convincing, but a bar of soap? He’ll thank you for replacing his old bar with Forest Essentials’ Indian Musk. It’s a handmade glycerine soap made from natural spring water, raw sugar and essential oils.

But he doesn’t need to know that.

Forest Essentials Outlets. In Mumbai: 12 Tirupati Apartments, Opposite Mahalaxmi Temple, Bhulabhai Desai Road. Telephone: (022)23511456. In Delhi: B-46, Khan Market. Telephone: 41757057. M-60A Part-I Market, Greater Kailash. Telephone: 29243269.
