Yes, you’ve had days when the goddess in you held the reins, and others, when you’ve felt like the devil incarnate.
Now there’s another place, besides the mirror, where you can check out the reflection of all your inner selves – Jayasri Burman’s exhibition of watercolours titled Sacred Feminine. It’s her first solo show in Mumbai after three years, and you can catch it for just two more weeks.
Her dreamy artworks display mainly Indian deities: god, goddesses and asuras or devils. Her female icons are captivatingly portrayed with a juxtaposition of traditional and modern elements, much like the modern Indian woman. Cell phones appear as necessary an accessory as a peacock to get around on.
The men in her paintings, who seem rather feminine in appearance, might well be interpretations of the modern metrosexual.
With around 25 works, this collection is Jayasri’s expression of her childhood fascination for pairing mythology and reality. Even with an acclaimed artist for a husband (Paresh Maity) and a famous uncle (Sakti Burman), Jayasri holds her own as an acclaimed female artist – a live version of the supernatural beings she portrays.

You love to visit Singapore.
You might not usually go just for the food, but doesn’t some chilli crab and chicken rice sound delicious right now?
Bypass your travel agent and head to Bloom, the coffee shop at the InterContinental, Nehru Place for their Little Singapore Food Festival.
Just like Singapore’s famous never-ending line of hawkers, you can go from stall to stall choosing the specialties you want, and then wait for them to come to your table sizzling hot.
Begin your meal with a Singapore Sunset, a frothy orange and Sprite concoction. Then authentic carrot cake, oyster omelet, noodles, satays and Nasi Leamk with chicken and mutton.
Have that portion of chilli crab. It’s worth the struggle you’ll endure with the shell. If you want to be adventurous, try stingray fish or squid – bound to make the seafood junkie in you very happy.
The only thing better might be the sight of a blue-nosed dolphin waltzing in that fabulously lit underground tank.
Festival runs through November 26, 2006.
Bloom, Hotel InterContinental, Nehru Place, New Delhi. Telephone: 41223344.
Price: Rs 1400 per person, includes the Singapore stalls and regular buffet.
The store manager promised you it was a one-of-a-kind piece. But then at a fabulous party that same night, you spotted another woman wearing an identical outfit. You’re still fuming.
But don’t get mad, get even.
Boycott copy cats and instead drop by the new Mogra, the second outpost of Gayatri Ruia’s chic, glam High Street Phoenix store. The spacious, white-walled Juhu boutique is both bigger and better, thanks to loads of glitzy accessories and a small corner devoted to Patchouli, Ruia’s fresh new label for prêt casual wear.
Best of all are the wares – jersey halters in muted pinks and greys with sequined silver necklines, bright cotton block-printed skirts with lace detailing along the hemline and crystal-embellished corsets for evenings out. All are sourced from outstanding local labels like Puja Nayyar, Siddharth Tytler, Crimzzon, You and Vitamin K, and are tastefully unique.
If no two women are alike, why should their clothes be?

You always have the inside scoop before the rest of your crowd. You knew leggings would make a comeback. You predicted Daniel Craig would make the best James Bond yet.
You’ll definitely want to know all about a new restaurant and lounge opening this Wednesday called Aurus (pronounced “awe-russ”). Luckily, Trendylicious got a sneak peak.
From the same guys who brought you Rain and Rock Bottom, Aurus – which means “gold” in Latin – lets you enjoy the cool winter weather sitting on French Riviera chairs, or on a bed by the sea.
Inside, the décor is plush and elegant. Crystal chandeliers, blue and gold silk wall tapestries and warm ambient lighting. The bar has a dance area and unusual drinks like a tangerine caipiroshka and an over-chilled cucumber and melon cooler.
For dinner, the chef recommends chilled zucchini soup with sun dried tomato sorbet, beef ravioli infused with wasabi mash or grilled chicken stuffed with spinach and feta and dusted with Zatar, a Middle Eastern spice.
It’s one to keep your Golden Eye on.
Aurus, Ground Floor Nichani House, Juhu Tara Rd, Next to Anita Dongre Showroom, Mumbai. Telephone: 67106667.
Price: Rs 2000 for a meal for two with alcohol.
A new hoarding is catching eyeballs in Delhi. A seductive woman, black stocking-ed and stiletto-ed legs kicked up invitingly, proclaims the arrival in India of Sisley, Benetton’s upscale sister store.
You might sashay into its spacious interiors looking for little black dresses and sheer floral frocks to sizzle the night in. But your eyes will alight on white cashmere pullovers – light as air and soft as a baby’s bum. A full-length sky blue roll-collared tunic. Delightfully quaint pastel-hued ponchos. Stylish wrap-around sweaters. Flawlessly-cut cigarette pants and tweed trousers. Coats and jackets in tweed, suede and leather.
Sisley’s autumn-winter collection creates an olde English look, invoking the grace and charm of a genteel world that has all but disappeared. The hues are soft, the silhouettes classic, and the quality of the Italian knits is outstanding.
While you’re there, check out the men’s section as well, and pick up a tweedy coat for the lord of your manor.
And to the babe on the billboard, hot and sexy can wait ’till summer.
Sisley, South extension Part, Main Market, New Delhi.
Prices: Sweaters start at Rs 2999, coats at Rs 4999, pants at Rs 2499, overcoats at Rs 9999, and jackets at Rs 3999.

Surf and sand. Iron-board abs. The most sought after desk accessory is here. Trendylicious got a sneak peek at this year’s exclusive Kingfisher Swimsuit Special Calendar, complete with photos from the shoot.
Running into its fifth edition, the calendar welcomes 2007 with the bohemian charm of the French Riviera. It’s lavishly shot at villas in the South of France, heritage hotels, and on the Indian Empress, KF boss Vijay Mallya’s newly-acquired yacht (which happens to be the world’s fifth largest personally-owned yacht.)
Models Deepti Gujral, Shamita Singha, Nikii Daas, Mia Udeya, Bruna Abdallah and Selma Lasrado endured three months of high-protein diet and rigorous training to don swim suits by designers including Malini Ramani, Rina Dhaka and Ranna Gill.
Many men would have vied and died to trade places with ace photographer, Atul Kasbekar, who shot these Indian beauties over 11 days.
This calendar is not for sale. Only select editors, politicians, actors and sports stars will receive one as a gift from Mallya.
Sadly, the good times are not for everyone.
Chic and sleek. That’s how you like it. Skinny diet. Skinny jeans. And now, a skinny phone, too.
Motorola has come out with the new ultra-slim MOTOKRZR. It’s slimmer than RAZR V3i and weighs just 3.6 ounces.
This stylish, shiny blue phone comes packed with improved features – including a 2.0-megapixel with 8x zoom camera (for those times when you catch your best friend checking herself out in the mirror) and a video recorder (in case she’s singing into her hairbrush, too).
Games like sudoku and a music player (the phone’s expandable memory can hold up to 2 gigabytes of your favourite songs) will entertain you during those rare free moments when you’re not talking and sending messages.
Flip the cover with confidence – its glass is scratch-proof. (Even you have klutzy days). And slip it in your smallest fancy clutch, dainty palm or tightest pair of jeans (without that awkward bump in your pocket.)
