3-D acrylic art

OD-ed on the Marcel Wanders style of home décor? On the prowl for something less universal?

3D acrylic art

If you’re enchanted by lights and brights, try this. Mumbai-based duo, Nalini Mehta and Namrata Baruah-Shroff, custom creates 3-D designs wrought into blocks of acrylic. They’ve done more than 10,000 pieces, so you can safely assume they’ll find the perfect reflection of your individuality too.

Add a breath of the great outdoors: scenic landscapes, soaring eagles, peacocks in jewelled tones. Or bring a sprig of freshness into your home with shy rosebuds and virginal white chrysanthemums. Our Trendy pick is an artful rendition of blushing hibiscus blooms held together by lush green sepals.

Tell curious guests how it’s done. A skillful drill etches a multi-plane pattern at dizzying speeds inside the acrylic. Colour is then carefully injected with a dropper. The resulting scratch-resistant sensation, with long-lasting hues that appear different from diverse directions, will steer conversations for years.

But to leave friends completely speechless, place the 3-D art in front of or atop a light source. The effect might just be a tad more dazzling than your ironic wit.
